How it all started
The Virtual Museum contains artifacts relating to Market Rasen that I have collected over the years. I started with the family history bug back in 1994, which led on to an interest in local history. This was boosted incredibly by joining the Facebook group Market Rasen Memories in 2012. This Facebook group started in 2011 by Peter Spilman really got me hooked in researching the history of the town. What started off as a few locals reminiscing about the town, now has over 4000 members sharing photos and stories.
Market Rasen Virtual Museum was born
As the interest grew, I started collecting bits and pieces which I then took photos of, researched and added to Market Rasen Memories. At the time there were many discussions about a town museum as there is not one, which is where I got the idea. I created a Facebook group of my own Market Rasen Virtual Museum (still going strong, please check it out!) where I could post all my artifacts and the research with it. With not everyone using Facebook I had been asked by a few people if I had thought about creating this site to show the wider audience... so here it is! Obviously it is still work in progress and there is still more to add, and hopefully that will continue as I receive more items.
The Museum Collection
Everything in the museum is owned by me either through donations, finds or purchases. This ranges from postcards, badges and booklets, to bottles, Market Rasen Mails and clothing. Here you can see a selection of what I have collected so far. If anyone has anything that you think might be of interest and would like to give it a good home whether an old Mkt Rasen Mail, a programme from an event, an old bottle, please get in touch either through this site or the Facebook Virtual Museum group
