These commemorative horse brasses were from the Threshing Day held each year on the ptoperty of Mr Brian Ayre of Gallamore Lane. Visitors would get to see how the threshing machines worked during the harvest as well as other agricultural machines. Mr Ayre also had a massive collection of Market Rasen history that he kept in big sheds which he opened for people to see. I was lucky enough to see the collection and to someone interested in local history it was amazing! Unfortunately, following the death of Mr Ayre, his collection was auctioned and separated. Thanks to Pip Richards for the horse brasses.
This ticket was found while renovations were taking place at 23 Market Place. Many thanks to Nima Staniewick for another museum piece.
An article in the Market Rasen Mail from 15 February 1896 reports on this event
"This year the promoters, profiting by the experience and success of their first exhibition, extended their efforts, and while making a slight alteration to the classes, brought together a collection of poultry and pigeons such as probably never before been seen in Lincolnshire."

As mentioned in the programme, the society began in August 1921 after a casual chat between Billy Ladlow, Ernest Morley and Bernard Cooper. The idea was thrown out to the public and enough support enabled the society to be formed in 1922 with their 1st performance being "Are you a Mason?"

Mug and commemorative coin given to all children - I was too young to remember this!
Mug and commemorative coin given to all children - I do remember this! Although we were not at school we had to go to the quadrangle at the Primary School to queue up to get our coin and cup. I can remember the big table with them all stacked up. We then had a street party in Velden Way where we had just moved to from Chapman Street.
The Market Rasen Music Festival was started in 1944 by Miss Gledhill of Sheffield Manor (which some of you may remember was an Elementary School). It ran over a few days in October each year and as it became more popular, poetry, verse and drama became part of the festival. Sadly the last Market Rasen Music Festival was performed in 1976 due to a lack of funds and support. Thanks to Pam Clarkson
